Flashpoint Beyond # 5 has revealed the Joker’s real name, but his connection with Batman: Three Jokers could complicate matters.
Ever since the Joker became Batman’s main villain decades ago, fans have wanted to know his true identity. And the fact that DC Comics has explored it in different ways in stories that aren’t canon, makes it even more confusing and mysterious. But here, now, in a new HQ of the current publisher phase, the name of the Clown of Crime has been revealed.

- The new comic reinforces the theory of the love-hate relationship between Batman and the Joker
- DC’s Riddler’s new look is the best version of the villain in a long time
Watch out for spoilers for Flashpoint Beyond # 5!
The last time DC broached the subject, there was some understanding that the publisher had accepted the narrated origin Batman: The killing jokeby Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, as remembered in Batman: The three wild cards, by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok. Therefore, the canonical state of the Joker is to be a failed comedian, who, after a bad day, loses control of his sanity. Plus, Batman knows that the villain’s wife and son are alive, kept under wraps.
Now, Flash point beyond no. 5 (from Geoff Johns, Tim Sheridan, Jeremy Adams, Xermánico, Mikel Janín, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Jordie Bellaire and Rob Leigh) further explores the matter and reveals the identity of the Joker. It all happens when Batman Thomas Wayne, from the alternate reality created in Flashpoint, tries to stop his wife, Martha Wayne, from learning more about time travel. He begins to track down all potential time travelers by their real names. And one of the people on the list is the Joker.
Martha questioned the Psychopirate about the differences between the two timelines she was analyzing and found that the Joker’s real name is Jack Oswald White. In that timeline, he happily lived as a comedian, along with his wife and his son, and even worked at Wayne Casinos. And that ties into the plot of The joke that kills And The three jokerssince it is the same characterization shown in both graphs.

But even with this revelation, DC seems to want to please both readers who really want to know the Joker’s identity, and those who prefer his identity as a mystery. The Clown of Crime has already been identified as Jack Napier and Jack White, for example, which doesn’t stop the publisher from changing their name again in the future. And there is no way to know if the Psychopirate would really have the ability to know the bad guy’s name.
Furthermore, there is no official confirmation that the events of The three jokers they are really considered canonical; otherwise, the chronological confusion would undermine the credibility of Jack Oswald White’s name. And so, this identity and his life as a comedian, husband and father, are still valid, but it is not known if in a definitive way – which, in a sense, still retains the charm of the aura of mystery about his real name. .
