What material is the fearsome sword of Marvel’s great villain Thanos made of and what is its origin? Christopher Markus and Joe Russo, the writers and directors of Avengers: Endgame, respectively, provided the initial response.
With his Infinity Gauntlet, he is arguably the greatest villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re obviously talking about Thanos here, the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame bad guy who can wipe out half the world’s population.
If the Infinity Gauntlet is Thanos’ primary weapon, let’s not forget his impressive dual swords. What material is the latter made of that shattered Captain America’s vibranium shield? And what is its origin? Christopher Markus and Joe Russo, the writers and directors of Avengers: Endgame, respectively, gave the beginning of an answer to these questions.
“Even though vibranium is the strongest substance on Earth, Thanos’ sharp sword is made of more than that.”, says Christopher Markus, a bit enigmatic, in the audio commentary for Avengers: Endgame. And Joe Russo will add to that – Evidently Thanos knew Eitri.
Understandably, if the weapon’s material remains unknown, its origin seems more obvious: it would be Eitri, the dwarven king played by Peter Dinklage in Infinity War, who, in addition to designing the hammer and axe. Thus, Thor, as well as the Infinity Gauntlet, would give birth to Thanos’ dangerous sword.
Comicbook site microphoneJoe Russo discussed this issue in more detail. “Obviously, Thanos is a millennial character who has fought everyone in the universe. He’s the greatest, he’s the Genghis Khan of the universe with the greatest weapons.”he says. “He knows Eitri, he went to see him to create his gauntlet. Did the dwarves create his sword too? It’s possible. But it’s interesting that this weapon can destroy Captain America’s shield.”
