The return of “Criminal Minds” gets a new title and confirms the official cast

Paramount + announced this Friday (9/9) the official “Criminal Minds” revival title for streaming, plus cast members.

The attraction will be called “Criminal Minds: Evolution” and will see the return of Joe Mantegna (David), AJ Cook (JJ), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope), Aisha Tyler (Tara), Adam Rodriguez (Luke) and Paget Brewster (Emilia ).

Reinforcing previous findings, Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney have decided not to reprise their roles as Spencer and Matt, respectively.

In addition to the “good guys”, the production will see Zach Gilford (“Midnight Mass”) as the main antagonist.

He will play Elias Voit, an operations analyst for a global cybersecurity company that has a dark side and an obsession with death.

In addition to a new title, the “evolution” for streaming will bring format changes to investigations.

Originally a one-chapter procedural criminal series, the new version of Paramount + will be serialized, with the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) team working on a single case over the course of the season – which will run for 10 episodes, instead of the traditional 22 on open TV.

Therefore, Gilford’s role will be more important than what the series villains received previously.

Created by Jeff Davis, “Criminal Minds” was one of the most popular shows on the CBS network of this century and spawned two spin-offs. The attraction follows an elite FBI team, studying the biggest criminal minds, anticipating their next steps, before they strike again.

But despite being a huge success, it unexpectedly ended up being canceled in 2020 in its 15th season. Until, to the surprise of CBS, his “replies” on Netflix became a phenomenon of ratings.

It is no coincidence that the production of a “new season” coincides with the release of the series from Netflix, made official last June 30, after being among the leaders of the streaming audience.

“Criminal Minds: Evolution” doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but is expected later this year on Paramount +.
