Shantaram trailer features new series from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star

Apple TV + has released the poster and first trailer for the “Shantaram” series, starring Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”). The preview shows a complex story, full of twists.

“Shantaram” adapts the worldwide bestseller of the same name, written by Gregory David Roberts in 2003, about the journey of a man named Lin, who, after escaping from an Australian prison, reinvents himself as a doctor in the slums of Bombay, India, over the years. ’80.

He ends up getting involved with a local mafia boss (Alexander Siddig, from “Gotham”) and eventually uses his weapons trafficking and counterfeiting skills to fight the invading Russian troops in Afghanistan. At the same time, he falls in love with an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla (Antonia Desplat, from “Letter to the King”) and must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with that choice.

The production is written by Eric Warren Singer (“American Hustle”), directed by director Justin Kurzel (“Assassin’s Creed”) and also has producer and writer Steve Lightfoot (“The Punisher”) as showrunner.

The project was originally supposed to be a film starring and produced by Johnny Depp, but that incarnation never really took off. Its release as a series was originally announced three years ago, even before Apple TV + was launched.

The first three episodes will be released on October 14 and the new chapters will be released weekly every Friday until December 16.
