Revealed at the end of Episode 3 of Rings of Power, Adar has many theories about his true identity.
After the events of Episodes 4 and 5, it seems unlikely that this unforgiving Orc lord is Sauron himself.
With his distorted face, phlegmatic composure, and terrifying aura, Adar is a deadly threat to the men of Tirharadh.
A stunning detail of its anatomy may provide a clue to the true identity of this adar, whose original name Sindarin (Language of the Gray Elves) means “father”. We already knew the latter was an elf, judging by his pointed ears.
But another detail draws attention at the level of his arms. Indeed, Adar wears a glove on his left arm. What’s amazing is that he doesn’t wear this armor on both arms, leaving his right arm bare.
Why does the leader of the orcs hide one of his upper limbs as well? If we know that this character was invented for the needs of the series, the show producers may have drawn on this story. The Silmarillion To build Adar by Tolkien.
Indeed, in the book we find an elf named Maglor, the second son of Fëanor, the maker of the 3 Silmarils. Renowned for his brilliant voice, Maglor swore an oath to Fëanor, succeeding his father and brothers in Middle-earth.
This oath binds them to prosecute anyone other than anyone who possesses the Silmaril. After many atrocities committed to retrieve the Silsalts, Maglor and his brother Maedhros, the only survivors, had their hands burned after being caught with the jewels.
Maglor threw one into the sea after his member burst into flames. This would explain why Adair wears this glove on his left arm. If Maedros was thrown through the rift, Maglor would wander the shores of Middle-earth and sing of his pain.
Thus, this description could fit Adar, a corrupt elf who commanded the orcs in the southern lands. We’re about to learn that the latter is called Maglor, inspired by his story The Silmarillion ? Answer in upcoming episodes of Rings of Power on Prime Video.
Adar is portrayed by actor Joseph Maul, who appeared in Game of Thrones as Benjen Stark, Ned Stark’s brother and first patrolman of the Night’s Watch.
In barely 6 episodes, divided between seasons 1, 6 and 7, the character had time to die north of the wall, resisting the transformation into a spectre.
When Joseph Maul was announced as the Rings of Power cast, Deadline reported that he would be portraying “Oren” and would be the main antagonist for Season 1.
The character has been renamed, like most of the ones announced at the time, and will most likely be a character who will not be an ally of Sauron and will have his own goals.
However, the recent events of Episode 5 blur the tracks. That is why we will have to wait until his true identity is revealed to everyone.
