Is this character from ‘The House of the Dragon’ a ‘dreamer’? Will there be new prophecies?

Let us explain…

¡spoiler from episode 6 of ‘The House of the Dragon’ below!

The Targaryens are renowned for their decades on the Iron Throne, their silver hair, and of course their dragons. But some, having dragon blood running through their veins, may possess the ability to see the future through their prophetic dreams.

In the first episode of ‘House of the Dragon’, Viserys (Paddy Considine) shares a centuries-old secret with Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), who has risen from “King to Heir” since Aegon I conquered Westeros and unified six of the seven kingdoms, placing the Targaryens in power ever since.

Viserys reveals that Aegon’s conquest was motivated not by ambition, but by a dream called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. In this dream, she saw a terrible winter and a darkness that lay in wait to destroy the world of the living. The only way for Westeros to survive would be with a Targaryen sitting on the Iron Throne.

Aegon had prophesied the events that would take place 280 years later, in ‘Game of Thrones’, and although it was a Stark who killed the Night King, Viserys discovered that the dagger that Arya would use for this had belonged to Aegon and had the song recorded on the metal.

Viserys also speaks of the most famous Targaryen dreamer: Aenar’s daughter, Daenys, the dreamer.

Daenys had dreamed of the fall of Old Valyria and prophesied that the land would be destroyed by fire. Despite being mocked by other familiars, Aenar believed in her daughter’s prophecy and relocated her family and her dragons to Dragonstone.

When the fall of Valyria occurred ten years later, House Targaryen was the only surviving dragonriding family.

Even though not all Targaryens are dreamersthe last episode of ‘The House of the Dragon’ hints that Alicent and Viserys’s daughter, Helaena (Evie Allen), could be one of them.

When Aegon (Ty Tennant), Jacaerys (Leo Hart), and Lucerys (Harvey Sadler) mock Aemond (Leo Ashton) for being the only one of the 4 without a dragon of his own, Alicent assures him that one day he will have one.

However, a seemingly unimportant comment from Helaena seems to foretell her brother’s fate. In order to acquire a dragon, she says: “You will have to close one eye.

¡spoiler from the book ‘Fire and Blood’ below!

According to George RR Martin’s original book, ‘Fire and Blood’, Aemond decides that he will not only have a dragon of his own, but that he will have the oldest and largest of all the dragons in the world: Vhagar.

When Rhaenyra’s youngest son, Joffrey, tries to stop her from claiming the beast, Aemond pushes him into the dung, taking the dragon away.

Later, he meets Joffrey’s older brothers, Jacaerys and Lucerys, who are furious and armed. The three fight and Lucerys cuts out Aemond’s left eye. The altercation earns Aemond the title ‘One-Eyed Aemond’, and he acknowledges that losing an eye is fair trade for possessing Vhagar.

If ‘House of the Dragon’ continues to follow the books as written, it will possibly mean that Helaena was referring to this. After all, Vhagar hasn’t possessed a rider since Lena Velaryon pronounced ‘dracarys’ on herself.

It is also possible that Helaena prophesied the fate of the older brother, Aegon, when she said (looking at the centipede she was playing with): “The last ring has no legs.

NOTICE OF THE LAST GREAT SPOILERS!

Although many fans believe that it will refer to the most recent king of Westeros, Bran, the Broken Stark, also it may be referring to Aegon, who will ascend to the Iron Throne after murdering his half-sister, Rhaenyra, in a civil war that will be known as the Dance with Dragons, (sorry, Rhaenyra fans).

In the book, Aegon manages to take Dragonstone and fights against the Targaryen princess Baela. When his dragons fall to the ground in the fight, Aegon jumps out of his, breaking his legs and leaving him unable to walk for the rest of his life.

It is important to note that the Targaryens used their dragons so tirelessly during the Dance with Dragons, that this led to their near extinction in the years after the end of the war. So, could Helaena’s prophecy mean Aegon will be the last Targaryen king (or the last “ring” of the chain), who will rule before the house begins to lose its name?

The princess may not be a dreamer in the books, but we’ll definitely be paying more attention to her for what she has to say in the future, if this is the direction the series decides to take.

‘The House of the Dragon’ is broadcast every week, at dawn on Monday, in Spain, through HBO Max. All seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’ are available on streaming on HBO Max.
