A House Across the M6: Will There Be a Season 2?

The series La Maison d’en Face, broadcast every Tuesday on M6, hosted by Julie de Bona, Marc Ruchmann, Katerina Murino and Thierry Nevivik, is coming to an end tonight at 9pm, with two final episodes that promise to answer all the questions. asked from the beginning of the series and finally found out the secret of the tragic events that happened during this festival of neighbors.

However, without saying much, the series ends on a huge cliffhanger involving Yannis’ character being camped out by Marc Ruchman. And this open ending, which should surprise more than one, clearly seems to call for a sequel. But is a season 2 planned by M6 and writers Lionel Bailliu and Deborah Hadjedj?

In an interview during the La Rochelle Television Arts Festival a few weeks ago, Lionel Baillieu, who also directed La Maison d’en Face, told us that nothing has been finalized about a possible second season. But this desire was real. Especially since the series is an adaptation of the Dutch format Nieuwe Buren, which had four seasons.

“Of course we’d love to do a season 2. I think there’s a little bit of a soap component to a story like this and the soap doesn’t stop there.”Lionel Bailleau explains. “The goal of the game was to answer the very strong questions we’ve been asking from the beginning with a teaser to explain what happened at the neighbors’ party.”.

“It was important to answer that, which we do in the last episode. We wanted to show how all these stories come together. And, at the same time, life goes on. Desperate Housewives lasted eight seasons. So we can imagine a lot. Things with this series, with these neighbors and with this by the street.

But then what can this second season say? “The character played by Caterina Murino in season 2 of the original series has died”Continued by the creator and director of La Maison d’en face. “Eve is between life and death at the end of the first episode. And they go into the witness protection story, which is not French at all. But at the moment M6 has not ordered a second season from us. There are arcs written by my co-writer Deborah Hadge. But nothing is written at the moment ..

“I think the ambition will be to try to find that balance between the detective and the soap, at the same time finding that sultry side, somewhat sensitive topics, to find the same color.” And we will have to reproduce a narrative system similar to the Party of Neighbors. , to rediscover the spirit of the first episode. These are the ingredients we need to gather to start the second season. But I don’t know if it will ever see the light of day.”.

After this interview, M6 aired the first four episodes of La Maison d’en face and the audience ratings are sadly disappointing. The first night of the broadcast drew an average of 1.61 million people, an 8.8% market share for the general public and 16.1% in the commercial target of women under 50.

In week 2, the series had the merit of stability, against La Stagiaire on France 3 and Mask Singer on TF1, with 1.61 million subscribers before episodes 3 and 4 (16.3% of FRDA) .

With a lower viewership and a slightly stronger commercial target, without reaching the TF1 points, La Maison d’en face is therefore disappointing and doesn’t shine. Which seems to end any hopes for a possible season 2. Even if M6 is waiting for the final evening reports and decision.
