Netflix released The Midnight Club on October 7, a 10-episode series centered on teenagers with serious pathologies who meet every night at midnight to share scary stories. Created by Mike Flanagan from the writings of Christopher Pike, it promises viewers great moments of emotion… and “freak”.
Thus, the first episode of the series just broke the record for the most jumps. There are no less than 21 in the “last chapter”. It is most likely the fault of the story told by Natsuki, who chained the screams in minutes.
The Midnight Club set a new Guinness World Record for the most jump scares in a single TV episode, and this scene is a big reason why.

If Mike Flanagan isn’t a fan of jumpscares, go for it He reveals it here, Netflix forced him to add a few of those creations. The showrunner obviously took the extras even further by integrating a large number of them into one scene. A bold bet (RIP our ears), but one that seems to have paid off.
However, Midnight Club is far from the horror series you might imagine. If our heroes enjoy telling scary stories around the fireplace every night, it speaks first of all to us about hope, faith, friendship and the family we have created.
Sure, you’ll jump and scream in fear at certain scenes, but you’ll also get a few tears out of it. Which brings it close to Flanagan’s other series for Netflix, starting with the very poetic Hill House and Bly Manor.
