Millenium Media has released the first image of Matilda Lutz as the Marvel comic book character, Red Sonia.
The case will eventually be finalized for the comic book film adaptationHeroic fantasy is Red Sonya First with visuals. A true sea serpent of the 7th art, the film has been in development for over 10 years at Millenium Films.
The script went into the hands of Robert Rodriguez, who hired Rose McGowan to play the medieval warrior, before entrusting it to Simon West, who in turn considered Amber Heard for the title, and ended up in Bryan Singer’s office.
But after being accused of raping a minor, the latter was finally blacklisted and the project is once again on stand-by.
In May 2021, Joy Soloway (Transparent) was hired to write and direct the film, and Ant-Man and the Wasp actress Hannah John-Kamen will play the warrior.
But last August we learned that a movie was starting to shoot in Bulgaria starring Matilda Lutz (seen by Coralie Fargeat in Revenge and Michel Hazanavicius in Coupe) as Sonia La Russe and directed by MJ Bassett (Solomon Kane). Joey Soloway and Tasha Huo are still screenwriters.
Millenium Media has just released the first visual of the feature film. The redheaded heroine, nicknamed “The Devil with the Sword,” appears in armor with a sword slung over her shoulder.
First appeared in February 1973 in the comic Conan the BarbarianCreated by screenwriter Roy Thomas and cartoonist Barry Windsor-Smith, the heroine is inspired by Sonia de Rogatino in the novel by writer Robert E. A character invented by Howard. Shadow Vulture.
In the comics, Red Sonja is a chain bikini-wearing barbarian warrior set in Conan. This character was already portrayed in the cinema in 1985 by Brigitte Nielsen in the movie “Calidor”, Richard Fleischer’s Legend of the Talisman. The Danish actor starred alongside warrior Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played Kalidor.
The release date of the warrior-centric film is yet to be announced.
