What exactly did the Hulk do while he was away?
Next, spoilers for 1×09 of ‘She-Hulk’
The MCU is abuzz with Hulkamania, and if the introduction of Bruce Banner’s cousin wasn’t enough in ‘She-Hulk: Lawyer She-Hulk’the Disney+ series, how about we add to a son of Banner to expand the family tree even further?
This is starting to look like ‘The House of the Dragon’. Well, let’s hope it doesn’t look too much like ‘The House of the Dragon’, but the series has gone from less to more, until it occupies a very good position in the ranking of the best Marvel series on Disney +.
Fans were rightly expecting a big twist in the ending of ‘She-Hulk,’ and some were right when Bruce (Mark Ruffalo) returned to Earth with his son. But, Who is Skaar and what does Banner’s son mean to the MCU?
Who is Skar?
In the 1×09 of ‘She-Hulk’, which turns the MCU upside down, we get to meet Skaar – played by Wil Deusner from ‘Stargirl’ – to set up a potential Hulk movie.
Bruce explained that he’s been off planet all seasonhaving returned to planet junkyard from ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ named sakaar. You may remember that the Sakarians tried to get attention from her in the season premiere, which led to Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) getting the powers from her in the first place.
After being introduced in the 2007 issue of ‘What If? Planet Hulk #1’, Skaar made his canon debut in 2008’s ‘World War Hulk #5’. He was the son of Bruce and Caiera.
A cocoon containing Skaar fell into a lake of fire after Caiera’s death, and later emerged as a preteen Hulk. Time moves differently on Sakaar, and given Skaar’s appearance in ‘She-Hulk’, we assume that his “birth” is what called Banner back to the planet.
In the comics, Skaar it was one beast Quite primitive who learned to kill to survive at a young age. In addition to Possess all of the Hulk’s green and brute strengthSkaar can also use the Old Power, the ability of control and influence directly the earth.
Rather than having his father’s brute strength, Skaar’s ties to his mother mean he can manipulate lava and rock like an elemental Jean Grey. The problem is that he also looks a lot like Banner’s early Hulk days, which means that anger consumes him.
In one of the stories, Silver Wake arrived on Sakaar and warned that Galactus was on his way to consume the planet. Instead, Skaar continued to fight Axeman Bone, enslaved Silver Wake, and was exiled for damning Sakaar.
Even by MCU standards, a convoluted story involving the likes of Galactus and Silver Wake is way too over the top.
Also, when the Skaar from the comics came to Earth, he had the sole goal of finding and killing his father. It was all happy families at Jen’s barbecue, so we’re guessing the comics will adapt to give the couple a father-son bond similar to Kratos and Atreus from God of War, the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series.
We’re looking forward to seeing Bruce teach Skaar how to harness his powers, though we’re disappointed that we probably won’t get to see him launch Juggernaut into space like in the comics.
As for when we’ll see Skaar again, She-Hulk’s mind-bending showdown with KEVIN (not Feige) mentioned both season two as “leaving it for the movie.” Now this might have just been a typical She-Hulk wink to the audience, but with the rumors that have spread during years about what Ruffalo could direct his own moviethings are lining up nicely.
Although Louis Leterrier’s ‘The Incredible Hulk’ has faded into the background alongside Edward Norton’s version of the character, ‘She-Hulk’ brought back a Abomination of Tim Roth for the much-maligned film, while Leading Tim Blake Nelson will return for ‘Captain America: New World Order’.
And what is more exciting, Skaar becomes part of the dark avengers in the comics. Currently, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, is recruiting ‘The Thunderbolts’but if we continue down the villain path, who says Norman Osborn won’t end up forming The Dark Avengers?
If not, we see another possible Young Avenger in our midst. Although originally ‘She-Hulk’ has given enough clues about a ‘Planet Hulk’ and ‘World War Hulk’ movie, the introduction of Skaar may disprove this. Many of Skaar’s arcs are tied to the Red Hulk, but with the death of William Hurt and complaints that he would have been too old to play Banner’s red rival, it’s unclear where the hulkverse is going.
Interestingly, 2010’s ‘Fall of the Hulks’ follows the Intelligence as he manages to take down a host of heroes including Thor, Spider-Man and Wolverine. The end of ‘She-Hulk’ made it seem like we were done with the Intelligence, but if we want to go to a more exact version of the comics, the Leader and MODOK could team up like they do in the comics.
‘Fall of the Hulks’ leads right into ‘World War Hulk’, where Skaar plays another crucial role and finally manages to resolve his issues with his father. Although this would also be a great way to bring back Liv Tyler’s Betty RossIt’s all speculation for now.
In any case, the fact that father and son make their way into the real action, it’s the closest that we have been from a hulk movie for the first time in 14 years, or maybe they’re actually setting us up for a ‘She Hulk’ season 2.
