Kirsten Talbot says that there are no more, because only the best were left.
If an argument has spread like wildfire against season 2 of ‘The Bridgertons’, this has been its lack of sex. Much ado About Nothing, a lot of finger rubbing but little from other parts of the bodyAt least not until well into the season. The creators assure that they sought to build sexual tension without resolving it in the tense love story between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and newcomer Kate Sharma (Simone-Ashley).
Today, the show’s intimacy coordinator, Kirsten Talbothas told the magazine Glamor that a good part of the sexual scenes of the season were eliminated in the editing process: “It was the same in season 1, there were a lot of scenes that didn’t go forward”. The reason? “We always do more than we need, so that there are many options in editing. I think that’s a really important thing.”
Talbot has explicitly addressed the negative comments from the public: “I know people have been frustrated that there haven’t been more sex scenes., but in part it is because we want to give only the best of ourselves. There are a lot of scenes that don’t make it to the final edition, that’s the world of cinema [aquí recopilamos una cantidad de escenas eliminadas de películas]. What we really hope for is that there will be only the sex scenes that we are really proud of.“.
But is that enough to satisfy an audience that was sold on the series as the home of irresistible passion? In the end, everyone who saw the series, we understand, was looking for something very specific in its chapters. Talbot thinks so, and that the sex has more effect when you meet the characters, even if they are not naked all season: “If there are two characters you don’t really know, then the stakes in the intimacy scenes are much lower”.
According to Talbot, the value is found in the construction of the characters, but also in the final climax: “You’re interested in these two after watching them for six episodes. Finally when they’re doing it [teniendo sexo]you know them very well. You enjoy with them. You wanted this all along, and it finally happens.” Mind you, to a dissatisfied audience, the intimacy coordinator has promised many more sex scenes in the newly confirmed season 3.
For Mireia Mullorin his review of season 2, the show’s lack of sex is worth it for the chemistry it builds up: “There may not be as many sex scenes this season, but there is a fair amount of intense staring, excruciating sexual tension and sizzling chemistry between the leads”. And he concludes: “In the new episodes, the most important thing is the construction of a seemingly impossible longing in which not only love or passion matters, but also duty, fear and trauma.”
