A unique contest within the festivals.
Valencia hosts a new edition, and this one is already 15, of a unique festival given the specialization of its format, La Cabina. The sample focuses on medium-length films, films between 30 and 60 minutessa choice that demonstrates the courage and creative freedom of its directors, who do not adhere to the most commercial and typical duration of short or feature films, but rather they dedicate the right and necessary time to the stories they want to share.
For this reason, one of the main novelties of this edition is the projection of individual sessions instead of doubles as it had been done in previous years, to claim the value of films as complete works. This year the contest is held from November 14 to 24 and it has 16 films scheduled in its Official Section and 10 in its experimental section, Amalgama.
The Official Section is made up of twelve medium-length films that last between 30 and 60 minutes., from countries such as Spain, France, the Netherlands, Poland, China, Argentina, the United States and South Korea. The Valencia Film Library will host its screenings and they will begin on November 9. Within the themes, the films presented deal with current hot debates such as transsexuality, pedophilia, homophobia, multiculturalism and the phobia of a terrorist attack.
On the other hand, Amalgama, its most critical and experimental section, is made up in this edition of eleven films that open the conversation to hot topicss such as the right not to be a mother, religious conversion and the dismantling of mining operations in Spain, and takes us to concerns and singularities in other corners of the world, such as the situation of the homeless in Canada, the precarious deactivation of antipersonnel mines, and bombs left by ISIS in Iraqi Kurdistan or the romanticism of the Trans-Siberian railway route in the third-class cars of a train that connects between Saint Petersburg and Shanghai. The La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia is the headquarters of this section.
The other Inèdits Section has programmed films by established directors such as Gus Van Sant or Pere Portabella.
One more year the festival continues to grow. It has been continuously developed since its inception, and therefore has increased its content: more sections, activities and more international impact. Among the additions to the programming in this new edition there are conferences dedicated to video poetry, fashion movies and gastronomy.
Also, La Cabina will have a channel on Filminwhere people from outside Valencia will be able to take a look at the novelties that the festival brings.
