The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney is working on a third installment of The Princess Diaries — and some details of the upcoming project have already been leaked to the press. The tape will be written by Adrita Mukherjee, who has worked on TV shows such as Supergirl and The Teacher. Returning from the original team will be Debra Martin Chase, producer of the first two films, and presumably star Anne Hathaway, who is now listed as one of the project’s directors.
Despite the fact that the actress has not yet signed the contract, the hope of Ann’s return to the franchise is quite real. She has previously publicly stated that she is interested in participating if “talks about a potential film go beyond the writing stage.”
Recall that the first film “The Princess Diaries” was released in 2001 and made Anne Hathaway a world star, launching her dizzying career in Hollywood. At the global box office, the tape collected $ 165.3 million, becoming an absolute classic of youth romantic cinema. The film is based on the novel by Meg Cabot and tells the story of a teenage girl from San Francisco who inherits the throne of the fictional European country of Genovia.
The second film in the franchise was released in 2004 and was called The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, but, alas, it could not repeat the success of the original.
