The Last Kingdom returns to Netflix for the fifth and final season. Here’s what you need to know about these recent episodes.
Earlier on The Last Kingdom …
The fourth season of The Last Kingdom ended with a peace mediated between the Saxons and the Danes by Uchtred Bebanburg (Alexander Draymon). But this deal ended at the expense of Stora (Ruby Hartley), the daughter of Utred, who offered to marry Daniel Chef Sigtrigr (Eysteinn Sigur∂arson) on bail. In addition, Outreach managed to avoid death in the face of his sworn enemy Brida (Emily Cox), but the latter swore that a final battle would be played between them and that one of them would surely die.
When is Season 5 coming out on Netflix?

What will be the final season?
Years have passed since the events of last season and the siege of Winchester, and King Edward (Timothy Ines) is still pursuing his ambitions to unite the kingdoms of Saxony in order to fulfill the dream of his dead father. Although there is now a long lasting peace between the Danes and the Saxons, this harmony is in jeopardy. Not only with the new invasion of Denmark, but also with the Saxon uprising.
Uchtred was entrusted with the protection of Edward’s illegitimate son, the future King of England, Ethelstan. But the traitor, Lord Ethelhelm, has the ambition to make his grandson Elfward, Edward’s second son, king. By fighting his greatest enemies, Outred realizes that his aspiration for the unification of England is linked to his personal destiny.
Time jumps and new faces
As you can see, therefore, a time jump is planned for the last season and a good ten years separate the 4th season of The Last Kingdom from the last episodes. So it makes sense to embody new actors in certain characters. Aethesltan is now a teenager and actor Harry Gilby will replace Caspar Griffiths.
His half-brother Alfward, formerly played by Marcel Zolt Halm, now plays Evan Horox. The same goes for Alfwin, the daughter of Etelfled (Millie Brady). Formerly camped by Helena Albright, she is now played by Fia Saban.
New characters are also expected in these recent episodes: Patrick Robinson will play Father Benedict, a man of faith with a troubled past, and Sonia Cassid will play Egetfu, an intelligent and compassionate Saxon who arrives in Winchester.
Not the 6th season but …
Even if Season 5 is over, The Adventures of The Last Kingdom is not really over as the movie is being made! In addition to Alexander Draymon announced at the London MCM Comic Con, a feature film called Seven Kings Must Die will finally end the history of The Last Kingdom.
Made by Carnival Films, this two-hour film, directed by Edward Basalgette, is currently being shot in Budapest by a large number of actors. á²›Even when “Season 5 completes the series perfectly”Producer Nigel Marshant found this feature film as obvious as it is “I always had an extra story to tell”she said Deadline.
