The vandalism attacks in Brasilia on the night of this Monday 12, left a trail of five buses and three burning cars, seven of which were completely consumed by the fire. The information is contained in a note released by the Federal District Fire Brigade, which also reported that a truck belonging to the corporation was stoned to death.
“The demonstration was revolting and caused damage to public and private property. The guild was very limited in its range, because, due to the violence of the demonstration, the danger to the firefighters was real. An AR (fast car) type vehicle, lorry, belonging to the CBMDF Supervisor, was stoned and another water vehicle (ABT) was also subject to objects being thrown,” firefighters said.
According to information, a 67-year-old man needed medical assistance. He was in Setor Hoteleiro Norte, an area close to the headquarters of the Federal Police, where the attacks began after the arrest of one of the leaders of anti-democratic protests in the federal capital and supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro, José Acácio Serere Xavante.
“(A man) passed out near hotels and was being attended to by CBMDF teams. He was conscious, oriented and stable, but complained of headaches due to tear gas inhalation. After medical settlement, he was referred to the UPA (Emergency Unit) of São Sebastião (Administrative Region of Brasilia)”. Also according to the fire brigade, 18 vehicles and a staff of 63 military firefighters were sent to monitor the attacks.
The incidents of violence occurred on the same day that President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was certified by the Higher Electoral Tribunal (TSE). Supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who lost to the PT in the second round, have called for a military coup to prevent Lula from assuming the presidency. Bolsonaro, who has not yet spoken about his political future and the defeat in his re-election bid, has made several demonstrations since last year indicating, without evidence, that there could be electoral fraud.
The vandalism began in front of the Federal Police, in Asa Norte, around 7:30 pm, after the execution of a temporary arrest warrant against the indigenous José Acácio Tserere Xavante, a Bolsonaro supporter. The arrest of the indigenous man took place on the orders of the STF and responds to a request from the Attorney General for participating in undemocratic acts and gathering people to commit crimes.
Federal District Governor Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) said he had determined the arrest of the perpetrators of the attacks, but there was still no information on any arrests until this article was published.
