It took a while but it’s here: Instagram owner Meta has launched a new tool to help users who have had their account hacked or who have lost access to it.
LIKE THIS? A new website has been launched, the instagram.com/hacked🇧🇷 Works on desktop and mobile and can be useful in the following situations:
- Profile hacked/invaded;
- Forgot password;
- Two-factor authentication code sent to mobile phone or email that the user does not have access to;
- Use of data by third parties to create a new account by impersonating you;
- Account disabled.
“From there, you can follow a series of steps to help you regain access to your account,” says the Meta/Instagram statement.
WHO HAS TWO FRIENDS HAS EVERYTHING. One of the available methods is confirmation by two contacts/friends. The feature was being tested and has now been rolled out to all users.
Basically, if you lose access to your account, you can ask two friends/contacts to confirm your identity to get it back.
For this recovery method to work, you must provide a password that has already been used on that account.
WHAT ELSE? Instagram will crack down on profiles impersonating other people and display the verified badge (which still means something there, unlike Twitter) in multiple places in the app.
HACK IT WITH EVERYTHING. report of Mar.2022 of Nucleus showed that Instagram hack reports posted to networks doubled in January 2022 compared to the same period a year earlier.
