The director of the film is Kirill Sokolov, who became famous thanks to his debut film “Daddy, Die”
Film critics not only in Russia but also abroad call Kirill “Russian Tarantino” and testify to the emergence of a prominent master in the field of Russian genre cinema.
The new film by Kirill Sokolov “Tear it off and throw it away” is interesting in that its humor is a combination of a style authentic for the director – on the one hand, it is a physical comedy with desperate characters who are easier to hit than explain in words. On the other hand, a fascinating artistic narrative: thoughtful visual details, bright colors, Easter eggs and movie quotes from your favorite films. Grotesque characters, humor and dialogue on the verge of a foul, bright aesthetics, soundtrack, drive and game violence are perceived here as the legacy of “Kill Bill”.

The most unusual role of Anna Mikhalkova
The transformation of Mikhalkova is strikingly different from the images familiar to the viewer – here she appears as the furious and despotic grandmother of Vera Pavlovna. And the softness and irony of the actress helps to enhance the comedic effect.
This is a very interesting role. In general, to play such evil for an artist is a gift. And here, despite the fact that my heroine is the personification of evil, she is also interesting because there is a lot of collective stuff inside her both from myths and fairy tales, and from archetypal characters. Despite everything, the heroine loves her granddaughter very much and is ready to fight for her. Well, plus everything that I really appreciate in this film is the humor and my wonderful fellow actors, – says Anna Mikhalkova.

casting
The casting of the actors in this film itself creates an added value. Alexander Yatsenko, Olga Lapshina, Vitaly Khaev, Nikolai Schreiber and others are already familiar and loved by the audience from cult author’s films and popular TV series. A separate line is Danila Steklov, popular among young fans for his participation in “Major Grom: The Plague Doctor”. The main character, the girl Masha, is played by a newcomer to big cinema – 12-year-old Sonya Krugova, who received the award for Best Actress at the Tallinn Festival.

Film festival life
The Russian premiere of “Tear it off and throw it away” took place as part of the XXXII Kinotavr in September 2021 and was greeted with deafening applause and laughter throughout the show. And in March of this year, the film was shown at the famous South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, which takes place annually in Texas (USA). Only 2 Russian films were selected for the official program of the festival, among which was a picture by Kirill Sokolov.

Based on real events
Director Kirill Sokolov admits that the plot was based on a real story from the life of his wife, actress Victoria Korotkova, who also played the main role in the film. The director is sure that the comedy genre and the lack of unnecessary drama will make it easier for many to look at family troubles, when everyone defends his point of view with all his might.
