Rede Globo has made an unprecedented decision and abandoned its Sunday program to put GloboNews journalism on open TV, after the vandal attacks against the three powers in Brasilia this Sunday (1/8).
The decision was supported by Luciano Huck, presenter of “Domingão”, who used his Instagram profile to criticize Jair Bolsonaro supporters for acts against Brazilian democracy and to express his indignation.
“There is on our flag: ORDER. Without it there is no progress, no growth, no inclusion. The hour demands even more respect for the democratic rule of law. Brazil, our orderly people and our democratic institutions deserve to be protected from these extremists,” Lucian wrote.
In addition to not showing the presenter’s schedule, Globo interrupted the film “Avengers: Infinity War” to broadcast live news of the chaos in Brasilia. After the introduction of Poliana Abritta, directly from the “Fantástico” studios, the broadcaster opened the GloboNews signal to all of Brazil.
Programming returned to “normal” only at the time of “Fantástico”, again with Poliana, which transformed into an extension of the broadcaster’s journalism, totally focused on the invasion.
The contestants were divided in their reactions. With a tradition in journalism, Band also began providing intense coverage, both on open TV, with Datena, and on Band News.
In turn, Record TV and SBT were detonated on social networks for ignoring the coup demonstrations in Brasilia. The two stations showed live scenes from Brasilia, but soon resumed their regular programming, with performances of “Eliana” and “Hora do Faro” respectively.
