Indie studio A24 has released the second poster and surreal trailer for “Beau Is Afraid”, the new film from director Ari Aster (director of horror films “Hereditary” and “Midsommar”) starring Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”).
The preview presents different versions of the actor in different stages of life, from childhood to old age, being chased by his mother and living a nightmarish life, where the world is presented as a violent anarchy, but also a childhood scenario that contains the possibility of love. All to the sound of “Goodbye Stranger”, a 1979 hit by the band Supertramp.
Since his cell phone reveals a contact named Psychiatrist, it is very likely that the film depicts a severe psychotic break.
The official synopsis reads simply: “A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and deftly depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”
The cast also includes Parker Posey (“Lost in Space”), Amy Ryan (“Afraid of the Truth”), Nathan Lane (“Only Murders in the Building”), Michael Gandolfini (“The Many Saints of Newark”) and Kylie Rogers (“Yellowstone”).
“Beau Is Afraidd” will premiere on April 21 in the United States and does not yet have a release date in Brazil.
