Kaley Cuoco had to multiply herself to embody Cassie’s fragmented mind and, although it sounded fun, it was the biggest challenge of her career.
Season 2 of ‘The Flight Attendant’, the HBO Max series starring Kaley Cuoco, the eternal Penny from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ has appeared on the platform to continue dealing with its protagonist’s struggle to balance the job of flight attendant. I fly with being a CIA asset… And an alcoholic.
The way the series manages to visualize Cassie’s struggle with her demons is again similar to that mind palace where she spoke with the late Alex in season 1. This time, however, it was something different. Kaley Cuoco spoke with DigitalSpy about these scenes and why shooting them was really weird:
At first, it sounded like a great idea to play five of me, until I did it and I was like, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’ (I laughed). No, it was a wild experience. Many times, there were many weeks where I was basically working against myself and a lot of my bodies duplicated. It was a really strange experience. I had never done anything like this before. But I think it’s going to be great. But we definitely made a big jump. And I think it’s 10 times bigger than it was in season 1. I was kind of acting against myself. It was a really wild experience. The only other series where I’ve heard anything like this about this was on ‘Orphan Black’. Yeah, I was shooting one take as Cassie, and I was doing it for hours. And then I’d switch to another Cassie, and actually basically work against myself. But she had a lot of stunt doubles to help me, and act with me, which was really helpful. I had to make sure my gaze was correct and that I was moving my hands properly. It was a lot to think about.
We can already find the first two episodes of the second season of ‘The Flight Attendant’ on HBO Max, although to fully understand Kaley Cuoco’s words and that “interpretive challenge” we will have to go a little further.
