Talking with CinemaBlendits director Elizabeth Banks shared that while the movie is pretty funny, considering its premise, “there’s a heart in it too“, with families and friends looking out for each other during wild and crazy times. The filmmaker revealed that his intent with the film is to get audiences to consider who they can trust when things take a completely unexpected turn (in case another bear accidentally takes a large amount of illegal drugs again)..
In addition, Banks also expressed her love for all things horror and gore, spiced up with a dash of comedy. Quoting Sam Raimi and John Carpenter, the actress said: “For me, the heart of the movie, the reason The reason I made it wasn’t necessarily because of the mad bear, I love these movies. I love horror and I love gore and I love comedy and I love Sam Raimi and John Carpenterand I felt like this was an opportunity to… this is set in 1985, so this is a real opportunity to create an homage to some of those types of movies, but also to do something really unique, because it’s also a piece of character”.
