Song in the Rain: 70 Years, 4K Box and Theater Release

Considered a classic among classics and the first stage of the greatest musical musical by the American Film Institute, the song in the rain marked whole generations. If he hired Debbie Reynolds as an idol, the film by Stanley Donnen and Gene Kelly offered the public scenes that remained engraved in the seventh art history and which subsequently inspired many filmmakers.

Among them, we obviously think of the unmistakable Singin ‘in the Rain, sung by Jean Kelly, dancing on her feet, holding an umbrella. A mythical moment that was almost destroyed for an astonishing reason. Shot in the middle of summer, the track in the rain was much more permeated by heat waves than the rain streams.

For the purposes of this sequence, MGM supplied pipes for the fake rain simulation. In the afternoon, even while filming was taking place in Los Angeles, residents of the City of Angels began watering the lawns, thereby reducing the water supply from the studios. If he could finally shoot this cult scene the next morning, other details could ruin it.

Due to torrential rains and a series of shots in the California summer heat, Jean Kelly’s famous wool costume was totally shrinking. So the team had to change it many times. Luckily for us, all these little tricks did not stop us from making this movie, which did not age even after 70 years!
