Serj Tankian can’t take any more scares from fans screaming “WAKE UP” at him in the street

System of a Down frontman is bothered by random disturbance inspired by “Chop Suey!”, but says having people listening to his music is “the greatest compliment in the world”

One of the greatest hits of the career of system of a Downgenerates one of the strongest annoyances in the personal life of Serj Tankian. The vocalist revealed that many fans scare him on the street when they arrive by surprise shouting “WAKE UP!”, the first verse of the song “Chop Suey!”, released on the album toxicityin 2001.

In an interview with the magazine channel Revolver, the artist admitted that the situation disturbs him a little – after all, nobody likes to be surprised by strangers on a day-to-day basis. However, the report was made with so much good humor that you can even imagine that the singer got used to the situation.

“People scare me a lot when they yell ‘WAKE UP!’ (‘WAKE UP!’) behind me, somewhere in public. I’m always like, ‘F#gh, old man! It is serious?’. It’s like, I’m glad you’re excited, but don’t do it.”

Despite being occasionally tormented, Tankian believes that someone taking the time to listen to his music is “the highest compliment in the world”. He is also delighted with the multigenerational character of the work built alongside Daron Malakian (guitar), Shavo Odadjian (down) and John Dolmayan (battery).
