Lily Allen back to the studio! According to the singer, playing with Olivia Rodrigo at the Glastonbury Festival in 2022 was what gave her motivation to compose and record. That was her first performance since 2019-on a tour that passed through Brazil in English Culture Festival.

In an interview with The Jonathan RossShow (via NME), Allen explained her feelings about the performance: “I was really nervous because I hadn’t done this in a long time. And I was sober. I really don’t know what I was waiting for.”

The artist expected to be received with indifference by the public, “but it wasn’t like that. It was very, very incredible. People went completely crazy. I was extremely happy.”

Allen revealed that he only accepted the invitation after insistence from his daughter, who is a fan of Rodrigo. “She told me, ‘If you don’t do this, we’ll never speak again.'” Lily were confused after the show because “they are fans of Olivia and couldn’t understand why some people were screaming louder for me at times.”

The festival “awakened something” in the singer: “Music is a lot of fun, and I’m good at it.” She confirmed that she rented “a studio for five weeks before Christmas last year. But nothing came out, it just felt too contrived. It wasn’t very good, so I’m not putting any of that out.”

after the Glastonbury, Allen he had already stated that he rethought the decision to retire: “Maybe I won’t hang up the microphone for now.”
