Lula laments the death of Rita Lee: “Now you’re missing”

In a post on social networks, President Lula lamented the loss of the singer, who died on Monday (8), at the age of 75: “one of the greatest and most brilliant”

The president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva commented on the death of Rita Lee. In a post shared via social networks this Tuesday (9), Lula lamented the loss and made reference to the singer’s interview for Rolling Stone Brazilin which she said that she “found the title of “queen of rock” “cheesy” (“I prefer to be called the ‘patron saint of freedom’).

Read the President’s statement below:

“Rita Lee Jones is one of the biggest and most brilliant names in Brazilian music. Singer, songwriter, actress and multi-instrumentalist. An artist ahead of her time. I thought the title of queen of rock was inappropriate, but the nickname does justice to her trajectory.

Rita helped transform Brazilian music with her creativity and boldness. She spared nothing and no one with her humor and eloquence. She faced machismo in life and music and inspired generations of women in rock and art.

She will never be forgotten and leaves her legacy in music and books for millions of fans around the world. My fraternal hug to the children Beto, João and Antônio, family and friends. Rita, now you’re missing.”

Rita Lee, one of the greatest singers and songwriters in the history of Brazilian music, died this Monday (8), aged 75. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021 and had been undergoing treatments against the disease.
