The Smiths formed in 1982 in Manchester, England. The group became famous in 1986 with the album The queen is dead.
In 1987, the rock band broke up. Marr and the band’s lead singer and songwriter Morrissey were sued by Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce for copyright. During this time, Rourke was struggling with heroin addiction and financial hardship. The members came to an agreement, and even after the lawsuit, the bassist and guitarist maintained their friendship over the years.
After the breakup of the group, Rourke also played with Freebass, Pretenders and Sinead O’Connor.
