During an interview with interviewthe singer revealed how the idea of ”Marks on My Neck,” featured on the album Charlie (2022), came during an intimate moment. “I wrote the song in the middle of the act. Maybe I should have focused a little more on the act, but the melody just kind of popped into my head,” he revealed in conversation.
I actually stopped and recorded a quick little voice note and then had to get back to the act. But that’s where that melody came from.
Furthermore, puth recalled how it happened at a turning point in his love life. “I was getting over someone and what better way [de fazer isso] than meeting new people? It probably wasn’t going to work with this person and that’s what I was energetically picking up on, which is good,” he explained. “It’s all about the experience.”
“I remember waking up and looking in the mirror, noticing these marks on my neck, and every day they healed and disappeared, but so did the person who put them on me,” continued the artist. “And we went our separate ways. I’m grateful for the experience and maybe so is this person, but I found it interesting how someone can fade at the same rate as the scars on their neck.”
