When it comes to horror movie , the genre simply wouldn’t be the same without its screaming queens and endings. you have yours all-time greats like Jamie Lee Curtis , Sigourney Weaver and Neve Campbell, but in recent years with the revival of horror, we’ve met a new generation of actresses to haunt the genre, including Maika Monroe. She is, of course, best known for her leading role in 2015 in To follow and the actress continues a series in the genre for traffic wardentalks about her journey to be considered a modern scream queen.
Gossipify spoke with Maika Monroe and new director Chloe Okuno of the next horror movie traffic warden. During our chat, Monroe explained why her career was so horror focused with these words:
It wasn’t really intentional. I mean, I remember booking The Guest, I was literally stuck in NYC. I do not have money. I couldn’t even afford to fly to Los Angeles and got a call from my agent who said, “You booked this movie. And I was like, ‘Incredible!’ I loved the script and I remember auditioning with Adam. [Wingard] and be like, ‘Oh my God, let’s cross our fingers. We’ll see what happens, ”and I ended up booking that. And then, while I was shooting The Guest, they sent me this script called It Follows. And I was like, ok, this is really weird. I don’t know, but I auditioned and then I met David. [Robert Mitchell]. And I was like, okay, it looks pretty good on film. And then those two films came out and were very successful.
It’s crazy how these things happen, isn’t it? Maika Monroe was only 20 when she was hired The guest in 2013, which was her fourth film to date after small roles in films such as the shining ring Yes Working day. Monroe continued:
I think, especially with It Follows, that It Follows and The Witch came out at similar times and then Babadook. And there was this kind of change that was happening in the horror genre. And I think David was a big part of that and a lot of these up-and-coming directors who make very stylish horror movies that were so interesting and characters that were so interesting and not these typical sexy girls running around and getting stabbed and bleeding everywhere. There was something inside. And anyway, yes, I was sent, of course, probably with the success of It Follows and The Guest, a lot of genre films, but they are really great, with great characters. And honestly, I think the horror genre is one of the hardest as an actor and that really pushes me. So yes, to answer your question, it’s not intentional. But I grew up loving horror, so I don’t know, here we are.
Although Maika Monroe cannot claim that her career path was intentional, the actress loves making horror films. The actress, now 29, has stumbled upon this horror resurgence that has led to an increase in the hit and beloved films in the genre. After playing The guest Yes To followthe latter has one of The scariest villains of modern horror movies Monroe played recently Greta Yes retrospective scene also, as well.
traffic warden premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year with positive reviews general. The film centers on Julia de Monroe, an American who has just moved to Bucharest with her boyfriend. Although she is already isolated in a new country, Julia begins to feel constantly being watched and followed by one of her neighbors. What Unfolds is a super creepy, slow-burning horror film from new director Chloe Okuno about the fear women often have when they come home alone at night or with the windows open in their homes.
traffic warden will be released in theaters this Friday, June 3 and will be available for aired on Shudder at a later time.
