Owner of a rooftop overlooking the Interlagos Race Track does not receive audiences from The Town: ‘Racing audiences are different’

Gilmar Santana has welcomed Formula 1 audiences for over 20 years, but he did not open his doors to the audience at The Town

Gilmar Santana It has one of the most privileged views of São Paulo, and it’s not of a beach or mountains. From the roof of his house, on Avenida Interlagos, South Zone of the capital, it is possible to see part of the Interlagos Racetrack track. Therefore, the merchant confesses to having spent more than R$2 million on renovating the slab.

For more than 20 years, Gilmar opens the doors of his home to receive the public who cannot afford or have not been able to secure tickets to watch Formula 1 races. He has received several requests from people interested in watching the The Townbut did not respond to any of them.

Before you judge Santana Well, the reason is that, from his house, you can only see the New Dance Order stage. “Here you can only see one of the stages, it’s very windy at night and the public wants to see artists, right? Unlike the race where the car is the star and you can see it well. Here on the roof you can’t see the main stage, the artists. Not to mention that there are several presentations on different stages. It wouldn’t be possible to accommodate everyone. So, I thought it would be better not to offer the space”, he said in an interview with G1.

Another reason for the roof to be closed is that, during the races, a barbecue lunch is held: “The racing crowd is different from the festival crowd. Those who go to the shows want to jump, scream, stay until the early hours, and they are right . My structure wouldn’t work for that, for several people jumping. And since I opened the roof for Formula 1, we wanted to create a more relaxed environment with a barbecue. So much so that I never opened it for festivals, like the Lollapalooza“, he clarified Gilmar.
