In an interview with Rolling Stone Brasil, Pitty spoke about the preparations for the show at The Town, as well as the celebration of Admirável Chip Novo (2003)
Not only Bruno Mars, Racionais MC’s with Sinfônica Heliópolis, Post Malone or Foo Fightersone of the most interesting shows of the first edition of The Town it’s from Pittywho spoke with Rolling Stone Brazil to talk about the long-awaited edition of the festival taking place at the Autódromo de Interlagos.
One of the great icons of Brazilian music and, especially, rock, is preparing a very different show. At the moment, Pitty is on a tour that celebrates the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Brave New Chip (2003), but this will not be the topic of the presentation at the The Townwhich takes place next Saturday, 9th, at skyline stage.
According to the artist, the show will feature New Orchestramade up mostly of women and which aims to bring “a new experience in Orchestras.” Including, Pitty worked tirelessly to prepare for the event over the past few days – or rather weeks.
“Look, we’re full steam ahead! Every day putting together, thinking, scheming… it’s going to be a special show, made especially for the The Town,” he stated. “Talking to Zé Ricardo [vice-presidente artístico do The Town e Rock in Rio] and the festival’s artistic direction, we thought of the opportunity to bring something unique and different.”
So, I invited New Orchestra to be part of the show, and we organize the arrangements to put on a rock show with symphonic elements, zero grimaces, really cool, really heavy and beautiful!
Even though it seems like an unusual mix, Pitty explained that both musical genres (rock and classical music) are not so different, and highlighted the combination between metal and orchestra, something that goes well together.
“Having studied classical and classical music at college, I have always seen this link between classical music and rock, and I think you can do that in many ways,” he said. “Arrangement is a matter of taste. Instrumentation is a matter of taste. You can choose the elements to do it there, however you want. The possibilities are endless.”
Then, the artist spoke about the importance of New Orchestra in this project: “Precisely their proposal is to bring innovation and modernity to this environment, to demystify this issue of when we say ‘orchestra,’ a certain image, a certain sound, immediately comes to people’s minds.”
And that’s what we’re talking about here. Orchestra can be a lot of things. I think it’s important to bring about this rupture and resignification, perhaps, of the word ‘orchestra.’ How do we face this?
For Pitty, the “standard” image of an orchestra must exist, but it is necessary to “bring in other possibilities,” including a mostly female orchestra, with this leading role. “So I think it’s going to be really interesting to watch.”

Back to Brave New Chip
The Town is another of the great feats of Pitty in 2023. With every weekend of the year having a busy schedule, the singer had a great reception in relation to the commemorative tour of ACNbut it should not extend into 2024.
“The initial idea was to do about ten shows, in capitals and such. But things got bigger, several requests came in, and now we have more than fifty dates,” he said. “If you want, you can continue next year, but I already want to try to do something else, because then it won’t be 20 years, but 21. That’s bullshit.”
“The shows are packed, people are very emotional,” he continued. “I came up with the concept for this show of playing the entire album in its entirety, an artistic and conceptual proposal that I wanted to make. And it’s been really good to have this experience of listening to the entire album and then, of course, I go through other parts of the repertoire, but there’s a whole scenography thought out… I’m really enjoying the experience.
It’s been current, I don’t feel like it was back then, it’s all new, these songs are totally new to me.
ACN It’s a milestone for generations
On the first studio album of his career, Pitty has already made history and released a work that is, to say the least, memorable. However, she began to pay attention to this detail some time after the release of Brave New Chip on May 7, 2003.
Second Pittyabout the songs on the album, she often hears comments like “it hits me now,” and some funny ones: “Wow, I’ve been listening to this song for twenty years and only now have I understood what it means.”
For the singer, this happens due to some factors, such as a change in age, life, style, and the music can continue to make sense (or even change completely). She even has a theory for this:
This is a very interesting phenomenon to think about: how music crosses our lives and generations. I understand this feeling because I remember hearing urban Legion I was about 14 years old and I absolutely didn’t know who I was Rimbaud. And years later, studying poetry, I realized: ‘Rimbaud It’s that guy who was in the song!’ So I also understand that this can happen with certain songs.
“I see that this happened a lot with ACN. There are many literary references and situations that are now contemporary, especially because of technology, social networks and algorithms and all that dystopian and utopian history that was being told there,” he explained. “In a way, we were experiencing it.”
Other Pitty projects
A few months before the celebrations of Brave New Chip, Pitty was on tour with Nando Reisand they even released an album, titled PITTYNANDO – Yours, Mine and Ours (2023). They sang iconic songs from each other’s careers and made incredible mashups. She described this period as “incredible.”
“My creative intention was precisely to make a mashup of the songs. So much so that I worked a lot with samples and not just playing each other’s music,” he said. “For example, the drums for ‘Do seu lado’ are the same drums for ‘Brave New Chip‘ being sampled and posted.”
I worked a lot with this electronic language and artistic direction in the studio to make these songs work in a different way, like PITTYNANDOnot like Pitty It is Nando.
An artist always current
Since he started in music, the music industry has changed drastically. At the time of ACNthe medium was dominated by radio popularity and CD sales. However, the era of streaming and social media has greatly changed the way an artist achieves success and stays in the spotlight – and Pitty is always up to date.
“So, I live in my time, in the current time. I maybe even live a little in the future, something I shouldn’t do because I’m an anxious person and should live in the now, but I’m always there a little already thinking about what it will be like,” he commented.
“What concerns me most is precisely having this coherence within these changes and also not being in that thing of chasing the wave that you think the other person will catch, because then you won’t catch any anyway,” he added. Pitty.
What’s your vibe? What’s my vibe? We don’t always know, but we live on mistakes and successes, on intuitive, loving and affective attempts in relation to art. So that’s what I try to do.
Pitty B-side and next steps
During the pandemic, Pitty explored other artistic aspects. For example, she became a director, streamer and screenwriter. However, she doesn’t have much time for “Side A, let alone side B.”
“The bug is catching on here. Mom, businesswoman, singer on tour, producing and putting together a special show for a great festival. Can you imagine what I’m like? That way, it would be a rush. But I like. This year is very full on this side,” she said.
At Twitch, the singer had a very special program, with scripted programs and even editorials. Furthermore, she messed with the switch and operated the cameras: “I discovered how much I like this type of communication and that perhaps I get along better with this digital medium than in person, I think I’m less shy.”
Now, for the remainder of 2023, Pitty who “survive with flying colors.” “Every month is a shot at my psyche [risos] because there will be The Townwhich is something that I am very focused on and putting together this show very carefully, with a lot of affection, with a lot of attention to detail, to deliver a very impressive performance,” she said.
And then I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ll understand how I’m going to end this tour Brave New Chip. I intend to close it [ainda em 2023].
