On stage at the VMAs, it appears the artist had trouble with pyrotechnics

While playing the song Vampire, the number’s pyrotechnics apparently went out of control, bringing explosions and sparks very close to the artist. Pieces of the scenery also began to fall. At this moment the cameras stopped the broadcast.
From other angles, audience members could be seen laughing and others looking distressed, such as Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes. Selena Gomez’s reaction, however, was one of shock.
To control the situation, the production removed Olivia Rodrigo from the stage and, after a few moments, allowed her to resume the show.
