“Our prayers have always been for peace and nonviolence,” Bono said in Las Vegas
OR U2 paid tribute to the hundreds of victims of the attacks by the Palestinian group Hamas, which occurred this Saturday, during an electronic music festival in Israel. In Las Vegas, the band dedicated the song Pride (In the Name of Love) to those affected by the bombings.
On the show on Sunday 8th, Bono changed the lyrics of the song which talks about the death of Martin Luther King Jr. In the new version, the artist defined the victims as “stars of David”.
“Early in the morning, October 7th, the sun is rising in the desert sky,” he sang. “The Stars of David took his life, but they couldn’t take away his pride,” he continued.
In the show, he led the audience: “Sing for our brothers and sisters, who sang at Supernova Sukkot in Israel. We sing for them. Our people, our kind people, people of music. Playful, experimental people. Our kind of people. We sing for them.”
“In light of what happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about nonviolence seems a little ridiculous, even ridiculous, but our prayers have always been for peace and nonviolence… But our hearts and our anger , you know where I am “So sing with us… and for those beautiful kids at that music festival,” he concluded.
