Anitta reveals the traumatic origin of her stage name in a Mexican podcast

The singer, who previously addressed the topic in her 2020 documentary, said the trauma made her create a new personality as a defense

Anitta revealed in an interview on Mexican Roberto MTZ’s podcast details about the sexual abuse she suffered as a teenager and how this led to the creation of her stage name. The singer, who previously addressed the topic in the 2020 documentary, “Anitta: Made in Honório,” said her trauma caused her to create a new personality as a defense mechanism.

The creation of Anitta

“I was 14 or 15 when I was sexually abused, and that’s when I invented the character of Anitta. Before, I was very naive and created another different personality,” the singer said. The stage name, therefore, was not just a professional choice, but a form of survival.

“From then on I would have imposed myself in such a way that no man would have had the courage to do something like that to me again. Because I would have been so strong that no man would have thought of abusing me. And in this character that made men very I’m scared, I created this ‘Anitta’ personality to survive all this,” Anitta explained.

Previous revelations

Anitta had already addressed the topic of abuse in her documentary “Anitta: Made in Honório”, distributed by Netflix in 2020. In the production, she said that she lost her virginity to an extremely violent man, with whom she had had a relationship as a teenager.
