On the first night of the Celebration tour, Madonna put on a crowd-pleasing show for 20,000 ardent fans, according to Rolling Stone USA
At 65 years old, Madonna After much waiting, the tour shows began Celebration Tour, responsible for celebrating 40 years of her career. The beginning was in The O2 Arenain London, England, on the night of last Saturday, the 14th.
Until reaching this moment, the legendary pop diva went through several problems. In addition to long and tiring rehearsals, the singer had a serious health problem and was admitted to the Intensive care unit (ICU) due to a bacterial infection. It is worth remembering how the series of shows would begin in North America in early 2023, but the schedule needed to be rethought.
In a statement to the crowd present at the The O2 Arenashe pulls no punches when discussing the gravity of the situation she faced (via Rolling Stone USA). “I didn’t think I could do it, and neither did my doctors,” she said. “That’s why I woke up with all my kids sitting around me.”
I forgot five days of my life, or my death, I don’t really know where I was. But the angels were protecting me. And my children were there. And my children always save me, every time.
She opened the show with “Nothing Really Matters,” played for the first time since 1999, before going straight to “todo Mundo,” released in 1982, and the iconic dance-pop of “Get Into the Groove.” Another highlight was the moment in which Madonna sings “Like A Virgin,” interspersed with a remix of “Billie Jean,” in Michael Jacksonand images of the two filled the screen.
Second Rolling Stone USA, the opening show was two hours of over-the-top, indulgent fun that refuses to dance to anyone else’s drum. After all, she is the one who is still standing after 40 years.
In a year in which the career retrospective of Taylor Swift is shaping up to be the biggest tour of a generation, here is a true icon who, for the most part at least, is determined to show that her throne as Queen of Pop remains intact. A celebration well and truly delivered.
