The movement of beatmakers seeking independence in their solo work, with the so-called ‘beat tapes’, has brought autonomy to several producers around the world and strengthened the rap public’s culture of consuming instrumental songs. It is following this idea that Wavybil created his second album, “Cidreira”, where he explores quieter rhythms in “therapeutic” sounds.
With 8 tracks, Cidreira was built with a strong influence on The Alchemist and Knxwledge, and attracts attention for its mix of synthetic sounds with organic timbres. According to the producer, Cidreira was born at a time when he wanted to explore more complex rhythms, playing instruments and no longer depending on samples to create beats.
The entire concept of the album revolves around Spiritual Jazz, a subgenre of jazz that focuses on transcendence and spirituality. The tracks are named both from the samples used and from the plants in the manufacturer’s yard, most of which have medicinal properties.
Gabriel Caetano, also known as wavybil, is an illustrator, designer and beatmaker from Goiás, who gained prominence in the scene thanks to the 90s sound of his beats, in collaborations with rappers VND, LEALL, Tarcis, Pumapjl and OG Britto , in Covil da Bruxa, a bank that is part of it. In 2022 he released his first instrumental album entitled “Pur Alchimi”where he explores samples of national music, such as Tincoãs, Maria Bethânia and Cassiano.
Cidreira is a work in memory of Evaristo Caetano.
