The husband of gospel singer Sara Mariano, Ederlan Mariano, was arrested on Friday night (27/10) by the Civil Police of Bahia after confessing to the murder of his wife. To the press, the case delegate stated that Ederlan had accomplices and “had wanted to get rid of the woman” since September.
He confessed to the crime after investigations had already identified him as a probable murderer, and was taken to the prison of the 25th Territorial Police Station (DT/Dias D’Ávila).
And note, the Civil Police summarized the situation: “The 25th Territorial Police Station Dias D’Ávila arrested the suspect in the death of Sara de Freitas Sousa Mariano, 35 years old. The victim’s husband was arrested and convicted, after that the investigations had identified him as the perpetrator of the crime. He then confessed to the crime. The man was subjected to investigations for personal injuries and is available to the Judiciary.
Undercover assassin
Before the arrest warrant was issued, Ederlan Mariano had made a video next to his 11-year-old daughter, in tears, asking for help in locating Sara, considered missing since Tuesday (24/10). Furthermore, he published an audio of her crying on social media. When the officers found the body, Ederlan made the identification after finding a ring and a sandal that she had been wearing.
Sara’s husband and producer, Ederlan Mariano, told TV Bahia that his wife was last seen on Tuesday evening (10/24). According to him, a security camera captured the moment she left the couple’s house and got into her car to go to a women’s meeting in the metropolitan region of Salvador. However, he claims he did not know who was driving the vehicle or where the women’s meeting would take place. He said he registered a police complaint regarding her disappearance on Thursday (26/10).
The shepherd’s body was found on Friday in the BA-093 area, in the Dias D’ávila region, 54 kilometers from Salvador. The charred body was found in a wooded area, near the runway.
Family suspicions
Soraya Correia, the singer’s sister, had already expressed suspicions towards her husband. In an interview with TV Bahia, Soraya revealed that her mother spoke to Sara on Monday (23/10) and the singer said that she had something “very serious” to tell her, but she did not elaborate on the matter .
“There are many things that are wrong, that don’t add up,” said the singer’s sister, without providing details.
Her mother, Dolores Freitas, who lives in Maranhão, confirmed that her daughter had confided in her some arguments she was having with her husband. “What I knew about Sara’s relationship with Ederlan was that it wasn’t good for her. She also told me that she couldn’t take it anymore.”
He added: “He also told me, ‘Mom, I will make a decision, which I didn’t want to make because I spoke before God until death do us part, but it’s absolutely impossible.'”

Singer Sara Mariano was a popular figure in the Bahian gospel community. In addition to distinguishing herself with songs such as “Eu Vou Fazer Você Sorrir”, “Deserto” and “Dexpert”, she was also a pastor and, together with her husband, ran TV Shalom, a channel where they shared evangelical content.
The couple had been together for 13 years and have an 11-year-old daughter.
