The Los Angeles audience got a very direct message: “You’re saying, ‘She’s late. She’s very late.’ You guys are lucky I get to be on this stage every night.” The singer started the tour on October 18, but had to postpone two shows due to serious vocal injuries. “I’ve struggled through the last few shows, straining my voice, and masking the injury with medicine. This is not safe or sustainable,” he said of the postponements.

I don’t do this because they allow me to. I do it because I am here in the name of God. He is the one who allows me to do this, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support. When the record sold so many copies, no one came up and said, ‘Hey, do you want to make another one?’ So I went around the world and played the same album over and over again. Because we are survivors, not just survivors, we thrive.
