On occasion Gossipify exclusive interview with David Cronenberg the director explained how crimes of the future maybe it’s different than it would have been if you had shot the script right after you finished it. In his words:
Well, he probably wasn’t a good director at the time, that’s possible. I certainly didn’t have much experience, but obviously, you know, I didn’t know Viggo at the time, we didn’t know each other. So maybe he wouldn’t be the main actor in the movie, he would change a lot of things. And it probably wouldn’t have been shot in Athens, because it’s a recent place that became financially viable and wasn’t 20 years ago, but it’s very pragmatic things in terms of the script, which haven’t changed at all. I mean, there was a draft and that was the draft we started production with, it didn’t change, so other things are intangible, you know? Would you have used the same lens for close-ups? I do not know. Maybe not. However, these are very specific little things. This may not have changed the overall scope of the film. I do not know.
A big plus here is that David Cronenberg apparently hasn’t changed a single word of his crimes of the future script between the time he wrote it and the start of production in 2021 in Athens, Greece. As he shared, there are a few small elements of the film that would have been different if he had done so then, including his now frequent collaborator Viggo Mortensen who is probably not involved, the filming location and possibly the of him. improvement as a director.
