Singer Taylor Swift has announced on her social networks that she will not perform this Saturday (18/11) in Rio de Janeiro. She decided to postpone her second show in Brazil due to the intense heat that prevails in the capital Rio. The temperature reached 43.8ºC, the highest since 2008, when thermometers reached 44.2ºC in the city centre.
He made the announcement on his social media, but did not communicate the new date of the presentation. In a video posted on social media, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes said the show had been rescheduled to Monday (20th).
“I am writing this directly from my locker room at the stadium. We have decided to postpone today’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, colleagues and team must always come first,” he stressed .
The fan died on Friday
The decision was made after a fan of the singer died during Friday’s show (17/11). Ana Clara Benevides fainted and suffered cardiopulmonary arrest during the event.
The mayor of Rio said that the singer was shocked by the incident, which also influenced her decision not to perform this Saturday, informing that there were already several spectators queuing at the entrance due to the heat of Engenhão, an entertainment venue.
On Friday, a thousand people fainted due to the heat and the event organization was heavily criticized for shutting off water, not providing enough water and not having adequate facilities to care for dehydrated people.
Faced with the repercussions, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, issued an ordinance this Saturday requiring Brazilian concert venues to provide water to those in attendance.
