The guitarist Lanny Gordinconsidered one of the most influential in Brazil, died this Tuesday (28), aged 72. A fundamental piece of tropicalism, Lanny participated in projects alongside names such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso It is Gal Costa.
Lanny Gordin was the stage name of Alexander GordinChinese born in Shanghai, son of a Russian and a Polish woman, as recalled by Folha de S. Paulo. In Brazil since he was six years old, he was deeply influenced by Jimi Hendrixfrom which he was inspired at the beginning of his career.
Gordin’s death was confirmed by the musician’s wife, Cristina. Lanny had been struggling with pneumonia for a month and ended up not making it.
Lenny’s celebrated works include Cool It is Fatalby Gal Costa, Build Upby Rita Lee, Carlos, Erasmus, Blue Araçáby Caetano, and Express 2222by Gil.
Later, in the 2000s, he ended up releasing original works such as Lanny Gordin2001, and Lanny Duos2007.
In 2016, the musician was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease that he fought for two years – and which ended up having permanent effects.
