DJ Linearwave, Latin America’s greatest Lo-Fi producer, has died at the age of 33

DJ and producer Yuri Bastos, known as Linearwave and considered the greatest Lo-fi producer in Latin America, has died at the age of 33. According to a statement from Arcadia Studio and TK7 Group, he died this Wednesday, 6, in Sao Paulo, due to lung cancer.

The artist was hospitalized at the Santa Catarina Hospital (SP). The companies said friends and family were with the musician during his death and asked for respect during this difficult time.

Yuri has had a strong relationship with music since childhood. He studied musical composition at the Sao Paulo State School of Music (EMESP) and dedicated himself to his dream of working in an orchestra. In 2018, he created the Lo-fi Linearwave project where he started producing Lo-fi beats and collaborating with his friends, such as singers Tuuh and Nanasai.

With more than 200 million streams on Spotify, he is considered the largest Lo-fi producer in Latin America. Between 2019 and 2020, Linearwave participated in Arcadia Studio as one of the precursors of K-pop in Brazil, producing artists such as Tutz, KXXUO and Maypi.

The sound produced by Linearwave brings influences from genres such as bossa nova, electronic music, hip hop and ambient music. With his songs she tried to “bring the listener into a moment of peace, in which it was possible to forget the madness of the contemporary world and relax for a few minutes”, reads his career statement.

“Arcadia Studio and TK7 Group stand in solidarity with the family, friends and fans of Linearwave who leaves behind a great musical work,” the companies concluded.
