Rapper Tyler, the Creator has accepted a million dollar settlement after the misuse of the song “Duplo Sentido” (1973), by Gilberto Gil. The information was revealed this Friday (15/12) by the columnist Mônica Bergamo, of Folha de S. Paulo.
According to information, Tyler has reached an agreement with the Brazilian artist according to which he will have to pay compensation of 50,000 dollars (approximately R$ 245,000). It is worth mentioning that the rapper had already apologized to Gil this week, when he also contacted people in Los Angeles (USA) to quickly resolve the matter.
Understand the case
The situation occurred earlier this month, when Tyler, the Creator launched a campaign for his Golf Le Fleur brand featuring the song composed by Gilberto Gil. The commercial lasts just over four minutes and details the brand’s new collection, but contains no mention of Gil or singer Tetê da Bahia.
On Tuesday (12/12), Gilberto Gil’s consultant told g1 that the publishing house Sony Publishing would ask for “financial compensation”, as the campaign had been running for many days. A publication made by Fioti was also shared on the singer’s profile, in which he asked for “preliminary dialogue and negotiation of copyright”.
