Why did Quentin Tarantino give up on Star Trek movie?

A few years ago Quentin Tarantino joined a Star Trek project, but the director shelved the film to make the last film of his career

Throughout your career, Quentin Tarantino did not work with major film franchises, but for a while he was involved in directing a Star Trek, which is currently shelved. Now the screenwriter Mark L. Smith explained the ending of the film.

It is worth remembering how, currently, Tarantino works on what should be the last film of his career, titled The Movie Critic. During an interview with Collider, Smithwho worked on the script with the filmmaker, explained the production situation.

Quentin and I went back and forth, he was going to do some stuff about it, and then he started worrying about the number, his kind of unofficial number of films,” he stated. “I remember we were talking and he said, ‘If I can understand the idea that Star Trek It could be my last film, the last thing I will do. Is this how I want to end it?'”

And I think that was the obstacle he never managed to overcome, so the script remains on his desk.

“I know he said a lot of good things about it. I would love for that to happen. It’s just one of those things I can never see happening,” the writer continued. “But it would be the best film Star Trek, not for my writing, but just for what Tarantino would do with it. It was just a bold kind of thing.”

Finally, Mark L. Smith commented on how the film would bring a “different feeling” compared to other projects in the franchise: “It was like suddenly there was a different feeling towards things in the Marvel. It was like, ‘This is fun. This is different.’ And I think that Guardians [da Galáxia] to a certain extent, but it was a different vibe and that’s what I thought I could bring to Star Trekit was just a different level.”
