Max Cavalera revealed that if he continued to use alcohol and drugs, he would only have a few years to live, according to doctors
Iconic band member Grave and brother of Igor Cavalera, Max Cavalera commented on how he had problems with alcoholism, in addition to the decision to treat the addiction after doing something unusual: drinking soap, according to information from the splash.
While participating in the podcast Hardcore Humanism With Dr. Mikethe musician and also a member of Cavalera Conspiracy and soulfly revealed how he drank soap after not finding alcoholic beverages – and was caught by his wife.
“We were on a European tour and I really wanted to drink, but there was nothing on the bus. So I went to the bathroom and drank liquid soap,” he recalled in the conversation. “I got caught. My wife opened the door and I had a gallon of soap in my hands. She asked, ‘What the f*** are you doing?’ and I said, ‘I’m drinking soap. I need help.'”
Then, Max Cavalera said how Igor didn’t use drugs or alcohol, because “if we both drank, we’d both be dead.” In addition, the singer received warnings from doctors that if he continued to use these substances, he would only have a few years to live – and was even admitted to a rehabilitation clinic.
I missed my family a lot. But that’s why, in this place, I looked around and saw what I love most. Do I love going crazy and drinking and doing drugs more than I love my family and music? I do not think so.
Max Cavalera of #Grave, @cavconspiracy and @TheSoulflyTribe talks with Dr. Mike about the obstacles he overcame to help build the heavy metal and punk scene in Brazil and about how his passion for music and family helped him to get sober.
