Swift’s lawyers threaten to sue Jack Sweeney for sharing public information about the trajectory of the singer’s private jet
The lawyers of Taylor Swift have threatened legal action against a University of Central Florida student who was tracking the singer’s private jet. Jack Sweeney is known for his social media accounts in which he shares public information about the trajectories of celebrity planes.
The data published by Sweeney can be found through the Federal Aviation Administration and signals that private jets transmit. It also shares the estimate of emissions that contribute to global warming.
The student received a letter from his lawyer Swift, Katie Wright Morronedeclaring that the artist “has no choice but to pursue any and all legal recourse” if he doesn’t stop his “stalking and harassing behavior” (via The Washington Post).
The letter also states that the actions of Sweeney caused the Swift and his family “direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical anguish,” which intensified his “constant state of fear for his personal safety.”
“While this may be just a game for you, or a path that you hope will bring you wealth or fame, it is a matter of life and death for our client,” the document continues, adding that “there is no legitimate interest or public need for this information, in addition to stalking, harassing and exercising dominance and control”.
Jack Sweeney told the The Washington Post which considers the letter “an attempt to scare you into not sharing public data.” He also pointed out that the threat was made in the same period in which Swift suffered criticism for the environmental impacts caused by his private jet.
“This information is already available”, he confirmed Sweeney. “Her team thinks they can control the world.” In an interview with The Verge (via NME), the university student reinforced: “I think it’s important to note that I have no intention of causing harm. In fact, I think I Swift It has some good songs. I believe in transparency and public information.”
Sweeney has also been legally threatened by Elon Muskwho banned him from Twitter on charges of posting “murder coordinates.”
