The actor revealed that he hates making this type of recording and expressed his reasons for taking this position
Sex scenes in films and TV series have become increasingly common in recent years. And they are not unanimous: there are those who criticize them, especially when they are used to attract attention and do not fit so well with the plot. It is the case that Henry Cavill.
The actor, famous for having played the Super man in long A.D in the last decade and Geralt of Rivia in the series The Witcher, revealed that he was “uncomfortable” with many intimate scenes done throughout his career. The statement was made in an interview with the podcast Happy Sad Confused (via NME).
During the interview, Cavill made it clear that he hates this type of recording. In his opinion, such passages are “excessively used” by current productions. Initially, he commented:
“I don’t understand these scenes. I’m not a fan. I think there are circumstances where a sex scene is actually beneficial to a film, and not just to the audience.”
Then, the star reflected on the exaggeration of this feature in contemporary films and series:
“I think sometimes they are overused these days. That’s when you get a sense of where you’re going: ‘is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothes?’. And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and think, ‘There’s not a performance here, there’s not something that’s going to last for the rest of the film’.”

Henry Cavill and the sex scenes
Despite the criticism, Henry Cavill reinforced that sex scenes can be important. The comment is made about the sections that don’t really add to the plot.
“I think sex scenes can be great in a movie, they can really help the narrative, but most of the time the human imagination goes beyond that. So it can be a bit of a cop-out if a movie or TV series is full of gyrating bodies and you think, okay, but what is that doing for us beyond the idea of ’oh naked person, great’? I’m not a fan of doing those scenes.”

Julia Roberts and nudity
Another big name in acting to speak out on a similar subject is Julia Roberts. The actress did not speak specifically about sex scenes, but rather about appearing naked on camera. Even though she played roles that were somehow linked to intimate relationships, like the prostitute Vivian Ward in A beautiful woman (1990), the American artist does not take off her clothes in films.
roberts reflected on the topic in an interview with Vogue British. The interviewer — none other than Richard Curtisthe film’s screenwriter A Place Called Nothing Hill (1999) — praised the actress’s feminist stance throughout her career and asked if she ever felt like she was representing an idea or cause in the films she worked on. She answered:
“I think it would be more important that the things I choose not to do are representative of me. […] I don’t criticize other people’s choices, but not taking off my clothes in the movies or being physically vulnerable is a choice I think I make for myself. But I’m actually choosing not to do something rather than choosing to do something.”
Still during the interview, Julia was invited to give her opinion on whether she considers acting to be easier or more difficult for today’s young people. Currently 56 years old, she understands that this is a “different” scenario. At first, she replied:
“Ah, it’s completely different from my time. I mean, that’s where I really feel like a dinosaur, when you just look at the structure of the business. It’s completely different.”
Right away, Curtis reinforced the question: is it easier or more difficult? Better or worse? Then, she commented:
“I don’t know if it’s better, because it’s not my experience, but it feels very different. And in some ways, it seems so confusing. There are so many elements to being famous now that it feels exhausting. And again, this is just my perception, because I really don’t know — I’m not a young girl starting out in show business in the 21st century — but I feel like it used to be like this: you meet people, you try to get jobs, you get one, you try to do a good service and, from this work, you can meet some new people who can suggest you to other people. And then you might get another job and you might get paid a little bit more for that job, and it might be a little bit better job. It kind of made structural sense. Now, however, it seems more chaotic. There are more elements, there is more noise, there are more outputs, there are more things.”
