Eric Clapton and George Harrison were close friends; both were married to Pattie Boyd
Love letters sent by Eric Clapton The Pattie Boyd while she was still married to George Harrison go to auction. In addition to two correspondences from Clapton for Boydthe former model’s personal items will be auctioned next month at Christie’s.
In one of the letters, dated 1970, Clapton questions Boyd about her feelings for him: “I am writing this letter to you with the main purpose of knowing about your feelings regarding a subject well known to both of you. What I want to ask you is whether you still love your husband. All these questions are very impertinent , I know, but if there’s still a feeling in your heart for me… you should let me know!”

“Don’t call! Send a letter… That’s much safer”, he asked Clapton. “Please do, whatever your answer is, my mind will rest.”
In another letter, the musician wrote on a page torn from the book Of Mice and Menin John Steinbeck, and referred to his beloved as Layla — which inspired the song of the same name. “Dear Layla, why do you hesitate? I’m a poor lover, I’m ugly, I’m very weak, I’m very strong? Do you know why?”, he began Clapton.
“If you want me, take me, I’m yours… If you don’t want me, please break the spell that has caught me. Imprisoning an animal is a sin, castrating it is divine. My love is yours. “
Boyd married Harrison in 1966, after meeting him on the set of A Hard Day’s Night (1964). Clapton was already a close friend of the ex-Beatle and started to attract the attention of Pattie when she started facing problems in her marriage.

The former model left Harrison per Clapton in 1974. They married in 1979 and were together for just under a decade. Harrison, Clapton It is Boyd remained friends until his death Georgein 2001.
