Olivia Rodrigo’s team stops distributing pills and condoms at the singer’s shows

Awareness campaign that distributed emergency contraceptives at GUTS World Tour shows was interrupted due to Rodrigo’s team’s concern about “children present at the shows”

Just a few days after attracting attention with the distribution of emergency contraceptives at his shows, Olivia Rodrigo stopped the action. The information is from Variety (via Pink News), according to which the singer’s team asked pro-abortion organizations such as Right by You to stop the free distribution of kits with condoms, contraceptive pills and information in GUTS World Tour.

Olivia, who had already spoken out in favor of individual autonomy over reproductive rights, would have opened the way for pro-freedom organizations to perform in her shows. Last week, the groups did so by distributing emergency pills, such as Julie, which promotes the termination of pregnancy up to 72 hours after sexual intercourse.

According to the report, Olivia’s team was concerned about the repercussion of the case, requesting that the actions not involve the distribution of medicines, as “children would be present at the shows”.

This way, groups will be able to follow the GUTS World Tour, but do not distribute any type of medication or contraceptive. The tour continues on the road with a show on the 23rd, in the city of Milwaukee, in the state of Wisconsin, where abortion is allowed up to 22 weeks of pregnancy – but without coverage by public health plans.

What do the groups say?

Consulted by Varietygroups such as Abortion Fund expressed disappointment with Olivia’s tour reversal, arguing that young people have sex and therefore should have access to emergency contraception. The groups also said that the free distribution of contraceptives is a practice permitted in all 50 states in the country.

Reproductive rights in the United States

The action drew attention by promoting awareness of reproductive rights in the United States. The topic has been the subject of debate since the reversal, by the country’s Supreme Court in 2022, of the decision in the case Roe v. Wadewhich determined the constitutional protection of women’s individual freedom over their own pregnancy.

Wanted by Variety, Olivia Rodrigo did not comment. The singer is known for defending reproductive rights and individual freedoms – including through the founding of an NGO to support the issue.
