According to data from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the number of vinyl record sales has grown again
In 2023, sales of more than 43 million vinyl records were recorded, according to data from Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) vinyls are regaining the protagonism lost to CDs. With six million more sales than CD sales, vinyls mark the second consecutive year of growth.
The data shows that although the number of CD units has fallen by almost 1 million compared to the previous year, vinyl has profited more. Accumulating US$1.4 billion in sales, vinyl records contrast sharply with the US$537 million grossed by CDs.
It is believed that vinyl is once again a huge success due to the unique experience it involves, and even though it has a higher cost, many people have chosen to make this investment.
This turnaround in the music market shows the return of consumer interest in consuming art for the experience it brings, and not just listening to the music. Vinyl brings a different sound quality than other forms of reproduction, in addition to being a collectible item.
