Acoustic ballad ‘Primrose Hill’ celebrates memories of a London resort town and evokes classic Beatles sounds
Singer James McCartney, son of Paul McCartney, launched this Monday (15/4) a partnership with Sean Ono Lennon, son of John Lennon. “Primrose Hill”, an acoustic ballad with orchestral arrangement, is a reflection on happy times spent in the famous London landmark that gives the song its name. Its melody faithfully recreates John and Paul’s vocal harmonizations, evoking the ballads of the Beatles.
A historic partnership
Announcing the song’s release, James McCartney wrote on social media: “‘Primrose Hill’ is here! Today I’m so excited to share my latest song, co-written with my good friend Sean Ono Lennon. With the release of this song, It feels like we’re really kicking things off. I’m so excited to continue sharing the music with you.”
The launch marks a historic meeting between the children of two of the greatest icons of world music. Both artists have successful solo careers, with Sean Ono Lennon having released solo albums and played in bands such as Cibo Matto, Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and Lennon Claypool Delirium. James McCartney has released a steady stream of solo material since 2010, as well as being involved in the creation of his father’s albums, “Flaming Pie”, in 1997, and “Driving Rain”, in 2001. He also participated in the release of ” Wide Prairie”, 1998, posthumous album by Linda McCartney.
“Primrose Hill” is part of a new EP from James that also includes “Beaultiful,” another collaboration, this time with his father, Paul McCartney.
